My name is Christine Wibberley and I'm passionate about family research, which includes not only finding out about my own ancestors, but helping other people get to know about theirs.
Family research is not only finding the names of our ancestors, though that is the first step, but where and how they would have lived, if they were rich or poor, what they did for a living and whether they were ever in trouble with the law or involved in a dispute, and other details about them and their lives.
I have been researching my own family for sixteen years and the families of others for four years.
I was born in Birmingham but left when I was 19. Anyone with Birmingham
roots should certainly visit http://billdargue.jimdo.com/placenames-gazetteer-a-to-y/places-e/edgbaston/ to find out more about the history of the city and it's individual districts.
I have an honours degree (LL.B.) in Law from the University of London and qualified as a solicitor in 1975. I practised as a solicitor in various parts of Lancashire for thirty six years, specialising in the law relating to Family, wills and general litigation though I have also dealt with property and criminal work. My name is still on the Roll of solicitors though I no longer practice.
I have obtained the Intermediate Certificate in Genealogy awarded jointly by Pharos Tutors and the Society of Genealogists. Though this is not a recognised professional qualification it does show that I have acquired a working knowledge of the research tools and records used in Family Research.
I am an Associate Member of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (AGRA) and subscribe to its code of conduct which you can find athttp://www.agra.org.uk/codeofpractice.php
I am a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists who have a similar code of conduct which can be found at http://www.apgen.org/ethics/index.
I
undertake continuing education and constantly look for new and better ways of delivering my services.
